Every wedding photographer eventually burns out. It usually involves a 14-hour shift, a missed milestone and the realization that you’ve traded your life to photograph someone else's.
I have a secret to share with you. Something that we learned a decade ago that changed everything...
All your wedding couples are clients, but not all your clients need to be wedding couples.
There is a world beyond the wedding industry that is professional, recurring, and highly lucrative. But to get there, you can’t just change your portfolio—you have to change your entire approach.
Here's how you start understanding how to think like a corporate client, what they want and how to give it to them so you can make more while working less.
Mindset & Language: Trading "Magic" for "Metrics"
When you talk to a couple, you’re selling memories and magic. When you talk to a Director of Marketing, those words don't really land, they're just fluff. Corporate clients are happy to get to know you but they aren't looking for a special connection or a "vibe"; they're looking for ROI.
It's time for you to stop talking about "capturing the love" and start talking about protecting the brand. Swap out terms like "price or cost" for Investment. When you understand that a corporate client views your service as a strategic asset rather than an emotional luxury, your value—and your invoice—change considerably.
Where the Leads Actually Are (Hint: It’s Not Instagram)
High-intent corporate leads live and work in the real world, not behind hashtags. To build a sustainable corporate business, you must focus on direct access and high-value referral partners:
- Hotels & Venues: Focus your time and attention on hotels that are not typically sought after by couples getting married or individuals planning milestone events. Think hotels you find in Las Vegas...huge hotels that host large multi-day conferences & events.
- DMCs (Destination Management Companies): These are the brokers of local experiences. If a DMC trusts you, they’ll put you in front of every Fortune 500 brand that lands in your city.
- CVBs (Convention and Visitors Bureaus): They need high-end imagery to sell their destination. You are the one who makes their city look like the place to be.
The Hotel Goldmine: Understanding the Hierarchy
Most photographers drop off a business card at the front desk and hope for the best. To earn the business and referrals from hotel teams you are going to want to know more about how hotels are structured and how they operate.
The Sales & Marketing Team: This department consists of the Director of Sales, Assistant Director of Sales and sales manager and they are the team that directly meets with, creates proposals for and sells events in the hotel that need both meeting space and guest rooms. This team is your first opportunity to get referred to in-house and third party corporate planners.
The Event Team: This department consists of the Director of Events, Assistant Director of Events and Event Managers. This tea is the group sales servicing department. They handle the group business that the sales team book. They plan and manage events that take place in the ballroom that have guest rooms attached. They are a second (often times more consistent) referral source for the conferences happening at the hotel.
Now here's the super special, magic trick that I really want you to remember. Each of these referral sources: hotels/venues, DMCs and CVBs are both a referral source and client in one. They need professional headshots as well as hotel, restaurant and spa lifestyle, editorial & commercial images. When you work with one of these sources as a client first, and you’ll become the "preferred" recommendation for every event they book.
Dedicated Corporate Assets
Corporate clients need to "see themselves" in your work. If you send a CEO to a website full of veils and floral arrangements, you’ve already lost the project.
You need a brand identity, marketing material and a dedicated webpage speaks their language. You want to ensure it features corporate images of live events and creative projects. There needs to be professional copy that aligns with their wants, needs and expectations and testimonials and other social proof from past clients and partners.
The Power of Recurring Revenue
The greatest gift of the corporate world? The "Yes" that keeps on giving. Unlike weddings, which are one-and-done, corporate clients book quarterly, annually, and for multiple projects.

The Wedding Ballroom to Corporate Board Room FAQ
How do I start getting corporate leads?
Move beyond social media. Build direct relationships with local DMCs, CVBs, and hotel Sales & Events teams. These are the primary referral sources (and often clients) for corporate event work.
What is the best way to price corporate work?
Always frame your pricing as an Investment. Corporate clients view professional media as a business expense intended to drive brand value and future sales.
Do I need a separate brand for corporate photography?
While not mandatory to have a completely separate brand, having a dedicated corporate landing page is essential. Corporate clients need to see that you understand their specific needs, separate from your wedding work.
What is a DMC?
A Destination Management Company (DMC) handles local logistics for visiting corporations. They are a top referral source and a potential client for corporate event photographers and videographers.
